Women

In Egypt there was a diference between many things for both men and women. Women wore diferent style clothing, make up and wigs. Women grew there hair out to be long while the men usually did not. Usually the most commen clothing for women was a sheath dress which was made by a few steps. There was a rectangular piece of cloth, the dress was basicly wrapped around the body and two thick straps were atatched to hold up the dress. Sometimes a diferent kind of clothing was worn, like a copy towards the dress explained above, a short sleeved top with a wide neck opening; instead of straps. In the new kingdom more clothing came to be adapted, a short robe would be worn by both men and women that was just draped over there body. Both girls and boys that were very little children would usualy not wear many clothes or just go nude for most of the day, that was because of the heat from the blazing sun and they could go nude as they were young but not so much when they grew older. And the Egyptian women were highly respected and honored, their clothing was more sophisticated. They too wore a loincloth with a long transparent tunic over it called a Kalasiris. It came up to the chest and was held together by colored belts and shoulder straps that crossed over in front and gracefully veiled the breast. Once a style was set it stayed for a long time because together by colored belts and shoulder straps that crossed over in front and gracefully veiled the breast. The man is wearing a beaded necklace and also another typical outfit for a night out. You know that where those people are is out at something fancy like a party because they are both wearing scented cones.

Men

Styles for men changed alot during times like the old kingdom all the way to the new kingdom, even fabrics changed. Men wore usually a short kilt made of linen, sometimes with a band of linen over the shoulder that was meant to keep up the clothing piece, that type of clothing was made and worn in the old kingdom. Poor&Welthy

In the old kingdom and the new kingdom there were many changes and diferences, one of the diferences was the rich and the poor. The rich had many diferences, especialy clothing. The ordinary eygptians that were average with money wore course linen but the rich and welthy egyptians wore very fine and light materialed linen. Royalty usually for special occasios or ceremony's wore very elaborate head dresses and clothing.
Another diference with the poor and the welthy was shoes. The rich and welthy wore sandals that were made of sandals! Those were made of very fine leather, but the poor had sandals made of papyrus or wovengrass. In the paragraph "Shoes" it will explain alot more about the types and varies of shoes.

Even some hair-styles were diferent, the poor could not have the same hairstyle as the welthy that was like a law in the old kingdom. The poor would tie their hair at the back of their head in sort of a loop like shape. Another hair style for the poor is to tie their hair off in one side in around eight to nine braided pony tails.

Materials

In ancient egypt there were many materials that were made for clothing. There were many methods that were used for making it and for making dy's for it. The most commen material for clothing is spotless white linen mostly because it was a price lots of people could afford and because it was very light and good enough quality. Dy's that were found among the desert like floweres and something that they could scavenge for would be used for colours in clothing. Colors that were used were iron, indigo and saffron those were the most commen colors.

Shoes

In ancient eygpt, the people of the civilizations drew alot of cave paintings. In the present right now we can assume alot off of those paintings, one of those things is shoes! We can assume what the shoes look like off of cave-paintings. Unfortunately there is nothing else we can do except for assume alot about shoes. In Egypt since
people had to hunt alot to get food and such, the poeple needed some sort of covering over there feet, because of the sharp rocks or twigs or something on the ground that would hurt or bring pain towards them. So that was the first step towards shoes! The shoes that were still developing were still in the first stages of being developed so it was usually a bag-like wrapping to them. Or sometimes they were made with some animal furs, which made a more comforting feeling to them.In ancient eygpt, the people of the civilizations drew alot of cave paintings. Hair Styles

Hair stlyes were very important in ancient eygpt even today they are very important. Hair Styles would always symbolize something important. Appearence would point out the persons social status or role they play. Hair styles varied and changed depending on their age or gender.
Little children had some very unique hair styles, the hair styles were usually very diferent until the child hit puberty. The young boys had their hair completely shaved off except for one lock of long hair from the back or to the side, that was named "the lock of youth". When the girls grew older after puberty they wore their hair diferentely, they wore their hair up in a long which would hang down their back. If it so happend that a girl danced her hair would be braided into a long pony tail.
When the boys grew into men, the hair style was diferent. Men usually cut their hair short to be very simple but still attractive. Those hair styles would stay for a major part of their life but as they grow older and their hair starts to thin it won't stay very thick and short and they will start balding. Another diferent hair style for men was that the short hair stayed the same but it was very curly.external image neith1.gif
There were many more hair-styles for women than anybody else, and those hair-styles were diferent. Overall women usually wanted smooth and curly or braided hair long and short but it depended on the time-line. In the old-kingdom women would rather have short curls or short straight hair or a chin length bob. In the new kingdom the hair styles were diferent women liked to generaly have a very long thick hair, but since the sun was so hot that wasn't the most popular so wigs that were very long and thick became very popular. Women often decorated their hair using things that they could find like blossoms or varies of diferent types of flowers. The poor people did not have things that the rich and welthy could have because of the price diference, so the welthy would have something nice and gold to hold up their hair where the poor had to find things like berries to hold up their hair. Another thing that could be used in their hair was head bands which came expensive and inexpensive.

Something else that the eygptions could use for their hair was a comb. Combs came in varies of shapes and sizes and value and how good they were. Combs were either single or double sided cones and the materials that they were made from were wood or bone. One kind that usually the rich would normally wear was the ones where it was very finely made and had a long grip or handle.
